nikkor 35mm f/1.8G Nikon announced the first product for the next PMA 2009 already: a new design fixed lens especially designed for digital SLR that provides owners of reduced DX format cameras an equivalent of a 50mm f 1.8, which for decades has been used by photographers all around the world for its invaluable features: excellent quality, very low price, high luminosity, very manageable depth of field, a focal plane / focal length ratio balanced and equivalent to the human eye. However, the lens is also suitable for full frame reflex, in cropped mode only. It is equipped with the built-in ring type motor SWM (Silent Wave Motor) for a full compatibility with all SLR DX format, including D40 and D60. In order to guarantee sealing continuity when mounted on cameras protected from moisture ingression the optic is provided with a rubber ring around the metal mount.
The minimum distance of focus is 30 cm (0.98 ft).
If Nikon did a good job designing this lens from scratch for the digital world, it shall provide a better correction of sagittal coma, of flare and of chromatic aberration with respect to the previous fixed lens designed years ago.
According to the official announce, the new product will be available in March 2009 at the following prices:

€ 243 for the European market and £ 199 for the United Kingdom.
