Nikon today officially annouces today the release of four new products: two cameras and two lenses.

Nikon D300S

Higly anticipated by many rumors on the web, today the new professional class DX (aps-c) format DSLR is here. It is basically a D300 updated with the latest features introduced by Nikon. It offers now full 720p HD video and audio recording, a faster 7 fps continuous shooting and Dual CF and SD card slots. As a plus a contrast-detection autofocus has been added for video recording mode. When Nikon introduced the D90 as the first video recording digital reflex ever, it lacked of any kind of AF function in video mode. Now things are changed but consider two drawbacks from that kind of implementation: 1) you can't expect a quick response from contrast-detection AF 2) the noise produced will be clearly audible until you use the in-body microphone. Luckily a socket for external microphone has been added.
An extra great small enhancement is the add of the central "ok" button of the back multi-controller. It is much more precise than the previous integrated mechanism. The central button is inherited from D3 series, as well the virtual horizon on display.
The back of the body is slightly changed in the lower right corner: the latch of the cf door disappeared and maked room for an info button dedicated to the live view mode. The rubberised area is now smaller due to the presence of the built in microphone.
The other parts of the brick-solid body (designed by Giugiaro) remain unchanged as well the other features that make this camera a real "baby professional" one.

Nikon D3000

It is the new entry-level Nikon Dslr. The extra small body inherits the 10.2 MP DX-format CCD sensor and 3fps continuous shooting rate from the D60. The 11-point Autofocus and the larger 3.0" display are the same of the recent D5000.
This Reflex is aimed to all those people with a limited budget or need a very handy and compact camera. It is also perfect for beginners since it offers a quantity of easy pre-sets and on-screen graphical aids.
It has no top LCD panel and no built-in AF motor: as a result the focus is manual when used with non-AF-S lens (with AF motor integrated).

Nikkor AF-S 70-200mm F/2.8G ED VR II

Nikkor AF-S 70-200mm F/2.8G ED VR II
Nikon has redesigned from the ground up this classical professional level lens. It sports now 7 ED elements to minimize aberrations and Nano Crystal coat to reduce in-camera flare. It a bit more compact (209 mm - 8.2" of length) than its predecessor, but a little heavier (1540 g - 3.4 lb) and provides rubber sealing.
We are just curious to put our hands on this lens as we already consider it just perfect.

It will be available from November 2009

Nikkor AF-S DX 18-200mm VR II lens

Nikkor AF-S 70-200mm F/2.8G ED VR II
An update for this very popular super range zoom DX lens to adress its major issues, the zoom creep. The zoom mechanism actually extends out while holding and carrying the camera with the neckstrap. Nikon simply added a mechanical lock switch to hold the zoom in retracted position. A new and improved "Super Integrated Coating" will help to combat flare and ghosting issues.

It will be available from September 2009
