"A walk near the Sea of Gaza" is the title of the photo essay by Luca Tommasini. He narrates through the lens a morning in the harbor and in the market after a night of fishing along the coast of the Gaza Strip, opened by the European Parliament in Strasbourg in March 2009. In that area where fishing is an ancient tradition, it has become still more difficult than ever: patrols now prevent the fishermen boats to exceed six miles off the coast.
It is a meeting with the fishermen, their marked faces and with people whose every day reality is often invisible to the world of mass communication media and thus a patch on an "alternative" time and place. Luca Tommasini is a freelance photographer since the age of twenty. He began collecting stories of Palestine since his first trip to the area in 2003, covering the conflict in a political and military perspective, in the economic details but mainly in its social consequences. He currently lives in Rome and works for the Italian NGO International "Centro Internazionale Crocevia", for which also takes photos for the ongoing projects.
