Unframe has been awarded 'the site of the month' at joomla.org. This is an unexpected and exciting news for us. We are honored to have been selected between thousands of listed sites and milions around the entire web.
MTV Networks, Harvard University, Citibank, Porsche Brasil are some of them out there using the Joomla code as well.
We are making a great effort to provide quality content in a usable and functional shell. A consistent customization work helped to make the site different. Undoubtedly Joomla has resulted the right choice as the main engine under the hood of Unframe.com
For those who are wondering what Joomla is, here below the description, quoted from the official website:
Following the spirit of Open Source philosophy we are contributing back to Joomla with a set of extensions developed specifically by Unframe.com and distributed for free.
As I'm writing, Unframe.com is receiving a peak of new visits and we are just happy to open a bridge between two entirely different ambits: The Photo Essay World and the Web Developing World.
I'm taking advantage of this special occasion to update all our users about the next future of Unframe, beyond the reach of this important milestone. Lately you could have noticed we are not updating very often the content. We are focusing indeed on setting up a series of important improvements, that will be hopefully uncovered on late June. The fact is that currently I'm the only active editor, I'm taking care of everything alone, from content selection, news updates, maintenace, translations etc. and things are somewhat slowed down. This will change very soon since new valuable authors manifested their will to join Unframe.
A special thank goes to all Joomla devs teams with a special mention to Amy Stephen, whose support has been priceless.
Last but not least, I'm willing also to thank the many authors and photojournalists who chose to showcase their works and put their trust in Unframe, recognizing it as a valued emerging photo essay magazine.

For those who are wondering what Joomla is, here below the description, quoted from the official website:
'Joomla is an award-winning content management system (CMS), which enables you to build Web sites and powerful online applications. Many aspects, including its ease-of-use and extensibility, have made Joomla the most popular Web site software available. Best of all, Joomla is an open source solution that is freely available to everyone.'
'Joomla is the most popular open source CMS currently available as evidenced by a vibrant and growing community of friendly users and talented developers. Joomla's roots go back to 2000 and, with over 200,000 community users and contributors, the future looks bright for the award-winning Joomla Project.' [...]
'It is impossible to know exactly how many sites use Joomla! but the best estimates say that it is in the millions.
Some other statistics:
* Approximately 20,000 downloads per day from joomlacode.org.
* More than 15 million downloads since March 2007.
* Joomla! forum: over 361,000 members and almost 2,000,000 posts, and average of 1100 posts per day.
* Joomla! extensions: over 4200 extensions for Joomla! 1.5 in the Joomla Extensions Directory.'
