Mustang, Nepal

These photos came from my last trekking in Nepal – Mustang. A visit to The Kingdom of Nepal is a step towards a fascinating culture of people from several diverse ethnic groups. Until recent years (1992), this Tran-Himalayan region was closed for foreigners. Nesting on the Tibetan border, this region is dominated by giants Annapurna and Dhaulagiri massif. Situated at the head of the Kali Gandaki in north central Nepal, the little-known district of Mustang is naturally and culturally attractive, in particular, origin of Tibet.
The classic route start from Jomson and go to Kagbeni, Cheli, Geling, Tsarang until to Lo Manthang: the Mustang capital. The elevation of the the trails rise from 2815 meters to 3780 meters above sea level. My trek arrived to the Damodar Kund lake, famous for Hindi religion. The elevation of the Damodar Kund is just 4890 meters; it is a cold and windy place. The walk to the Damodar Kund (lake) is not so difficult but quite long walking distance and only sometimes a bit steep and almost flat. The Damodar lakes are located three days walk north east of the main Mustang trekking route and very close to the border with Tibet.
Mustang trekking is one of Nepal's most mysterious and last known kingdoms. The landscape of Mustang is a barren moonscape of eroded sandstone pillars and discontinuous moraine terraces, which together present a colorful mosaic made up principally of earthen reds, yellows and brown.
